needing to be more feminine/masculine

Last week we had that discussion in class about the girl with the frilly dress on when it was raining. This post secret postcard reminded me of that discussion. I wonder if  that woman felt this way- that she had to act super girlie to get noticed by the guy she was with. I know that this might be exaggerated but I have friends that complain that they have to dress up for their boyfriends to compliment them and "notice them." I know that thats how my tomboy self felt  it was like in elementary and middle school whether it was true or not.
